Gregor Piatagorsky
1903 - 1976
Piatagorsky was a Russian-born cellist engaged as the principal cellist of the Bolshoi at age fifteen. He fled his country after the revolution and was discovered playing in a Berlin cafe by Wilhelm Furtwangler, who hired him as principal cellist of the Berlin Philharmonic. He became cello professor at the Curtis Institute following Emanuel Feuermann.
