János Starker

1924 - 2013

 

Janos Starker was a Hungarian who emigrated to the states following WWII. He played as pricipal cellist of the Metropolitain Opera and the Chicago Symphony under Fritz Reiner. In 1958, he became cello professor at the Indiana University School of Music. He published an Organized Method of String Playing  to help cellists develop left hand technique through intonation tendencies.
