Pablo Casals
1876 – 1973
Pablo Casals was a Catalan cellist and conductor who brought the Bach cello suites to the popular ear. He played for Theodore Roosevelt and for John Kennedy who bestowed Casals with the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his advocacy for peace and his protest of the Spanish civil war.
